Evaluation of Patient Satisfaction Among Patients Managed for Chronic Skin Diseases in Burkina Faso.

Introduction: Patient satisfaction is an essential component in determining the quality of healthcare services, and a major element in the philosophy of patient-centered care. It is in relation with therapeutic adherence, continuity of care and improvement of patient’s state of health. The aim of this study is to assess the satisfaction of patients suffering from chronic dermatoses in order to propose improvement actions to increase their compliance with treatment.
Methode: This was a cross-sectional opinion survey conducted from March 30th to May 25th 2023 among patients treated for chronic dermatoses at the University Hospital Centers Yalgado Ouédraogo (CHUYO) and Souro Sanou (CHUSS). Results: One hundred and three (103) patients completed the questionnaire, including 54 from CHUYO and 49 from CHUSS. The overall satisfaction score was 59.15% and was considered satisfactory. Four dimensions were assessed: care provider-patient interaction was deemed satisfactory. with a score of 80.83%, and the technical competence of staff, with 66.83%. Access to care was judged unsatisfactory, with a score of 42.50%, and the care environment, with a score of 48.54%. Ninety-four patients made suggestions on dimensions assessed. Conclusion: The complexity of managing chronic dermatoses (most of which are display pathologies) means that we need to take into account patients' opinions and involve them in the development of care plans. Taking patients' suggestions into account will improve their satisfaction and compliance with treatment.
