Abstract

To determine the prevalence of stress at work in a bank in the city of Ouagadougou. This was a cross-sectional,
descriptive study. The bank served as a framework for study. The survey took place from 7 to 17
October 2016. The study covered all the workers of the bank in Ouagadougou. We used the Karasek questionnaire.
The participation rate was 85.33%. One hundred and twenty-three fiches were selected. The
average age of workers was 43 years with extremes of 22 and 59 years. The sex ratio was 0.86. The medians
for psychological demand, decision latitude and social support were 24, 64 and 24 points, respectively.
The psychological demand was high in 48.78% of workers. The decision-making latitude was low in 44.71%
of workers. Social support was low at 39.02%. The prevalence of stress was 22.76% and that of isostrain
14.63%. Work stress is a reality in the bank. It is therefore imperative to fight and prevent stress at work to
protect the well-being of workers and the company.
