The objective of this research is to characterize the production systems of members of farmer organizations in northern Burkina Faso. It uses panel data collected from 1556 individuals. The results of descriptive statistics have made it possible to distinguish five categories of farmers: non-adopters of good practices for adaptation to climate change (GPACC), adopters of one, of two, of three and four GPACC. The results of the mean comparison tests showed that the adoption of GPACC improves the level of agricultural intensification. However, the amount of inputs used varies among different categories of farmers. Adopters of four GPACC have the highest amounts of inputs applied. Men apply per ha 0.3l of herbicide, 0.5l of insecticide, 42.7kg of fertilizer, 1253kg of organic manure and provide 20.9 man-days. Women use per ha 0.4l of herbicide, 0.5l of insecticide, 36.8kg of chemical fertilizer, 916.6kg of organic manure and 36.9 man-days. Women use per ha 0.4l of herbicide, 0.5l of insecticide, 36.8kg of chemical fertilizer, 916.6kg of organic manure and 36.9 man-days. In general, production systems are characterized by low use of agricultural inputs. These results imply the implementation of actions to encourage agricultural intensification and the large-scale promotion of the GPACC association.
