This study, conducted in Bobo-Dioulasso, highlights the impact of different types of biochar amendement on soil fertility and lettuce yields. To do so, pots experiment with contaminated substrate was carried out under lettuce. Soils was amended with the different types of biochar at three rate. Biochar is produced by pyrolysis of cotton stalks and is physically activated at 500° C. and chemically activated with calcium chloride. The experimental design was a factorial block, with seven treatments and three replicated. The application of chemically activated biochar resulted in a decrease in soil nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium contains, with a pH limit of 6.69. As a result, yields dropped from 10.12 t/ha to 7.30 t/ha, and then 6.69 t/ha with the increase in biochar doses of 0, 2.5 and 5 t/ha, respectively. Conversely, the physically activated biochar significantly enriched the soil with nutrients, bringing total nitrogen to 0.33%, total phosphorus to 1420.41 mg/kg and total potassium to 1064.64 mg/kg, with a pH increase to 6.90. These improvements result in an increase in yield from 10.12 per 0 t/ha of this type of biochar to 11.55 t/ha for the maximum dose. Inactivated biochar also improved soil fertility and yields. Physically activated biochar appears to be the most effective for optimizing soil nutrition and agricultural production
