In Burkina Faso, market gardening represents a strategic socio-economic activity, but remains heavily affected by parasitic attacks. To protect their crops, many producers rely heavily on synthetic pesticides, with associated health and environmental risks. Biopesticides are proposed as alternatives, but their adoption remains limited. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing this low adoption in the Kadiogo and Houet provinces. 120 market gardeners across eight sites were surveyed using semi- structured questionnaires. The results show that producers' negative perceptions of biopesticides mainly their low effectiveness, high cost, difficulty of preparation, high frequency of treatments required and their specificity towards pests, unlike synthetic pesticides which are perceived as more versatile. The analysis also reveals that farm size, cooperative membership, and prior training on biopesticides significantly influence these perceptions. To promote the biopesticides adoption, it appears necessary to strengthen research on these products, enhance the technical capacities of market gardeners, improve the accessibility of biopesticides in terms of availability and cost, and encourage incentive mechanisms aimed at promoting more sustainable plant protection practices.
