Abstract

The agricultural sector in general is an important part of Burkina Faso's economy. This sector alone
contributes almost 35% of GDP. Tree growing plays a key role. However, this sector suffers from low
productivity, due in part to a lack of mastery of production techniques and the selection of suitable seeds.
Papaya production in Burkina Faso is facing the same difficulties. This article presents the selection of a
papaya variety using an extension of the TOPSIS method (Technique for Order Performance by Similarity
to Ideal Solution). TOPSIS is a very practical mathematical decision support method that already exists in
the scientific literature and is used in several areas of life. In order to improve papaya production in Burkina
Faso, the best seed varieties need to be selected. In this article, using data simulation, a papaya variety
adapted to the conditions in our country was selected from four varieties: Formosa, Sunrise, Papaye solo 8
and Golden. The simulation using the decision support method (TOPSIS) led to the selection of Papaya
solo 8 as the best of the four varieties.
