Abstract

The aim of this study was to characterise the essential oil of Lippia multiflora Moldenke. The chemical
composition and physicochemical properties of Lippia multiflora flowering tops harvested in Ouagadougou
city in central Burkina Faso were determined using GC/MS and GC/FID. The main compounds obtained
were β-caryophyllene (35.73%), germacrene-D (24.13%), and elemol (7.92%). The physico-chemical
properties of the essential oil were determined, including a density of 0.897 ± 0.006 g/cm3, a refractive
index of 1.4939 ± 0.002, an acid number of 0.85 ± 0.03 mg KOH/g, and a pH of 3.70 ± 0.08.
