Abstract

Bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum is a disease that damages tomatoes in Burkina Bacterial
wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum is a major tomato disease in Burkina Faso. This study is to
contribute to fight against this disease by a reinforced compost. It was produced from crop residues,
poultry manure and enriched with the essential oil of Ocimum gratissimum L. The chemical parameters of
this compost were evaluated. The experimental device is a complete randomization with seven (07)
treatments repeated six (06) times. Compost was applied at doses of 20, 30 and 40 t.ha-1
and NPK at 300
kg.ha-1
. The infestation was artificial with a quantification of the inoculum after trial and the evaluation of
the agronomic parameters. The results of the chemical characterization of the composts show that the
parameters analyzed for simple compost and enriched compost comply with international standards. The
best agronomic performances were obtained with the highest doses of enriched compost. The
quantification showed that the high doses of enriched compost reduce the rate of inoculum in the culture
substrate by 30% and 34% respectively compared to the controls. It is advisable to renew the trial in real
environment in order to popularize this innovation to the producers.
