Abstract

This study aimed is to assess the socio-economic importance of dead wood in the communes of Yalgo and
Tougouri and to analyse the determinants of the willingness to pay of loggers. To achieve this, a survey
has been carried out on 62 wholesalers’ operators of wood present in the study area. The data from this
survey were analyzed using the cost-benefit method, the quantitative and qualitative method of well-being.
As well as a descriptive and econometric analysis of willingness to pay. The results of this analysis indicate
that the activity is profitable. In addition, the income from the exploitation of dead wood allows an
improvement in the well-being of these operators’ households. Especially this activity provides a profit
ranging from 100 000 CFA to more than 1000 000 CFA to at least 91% of them. Finally, the descriptive
analysis of the CAP indicates that only 48.4% agreed to pay for the protection of species. Econometrical
estimations show that only the annual income influence positively and significantly the CAP.
