Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe specific clinical forms of pernicious disease received at CHUYO. Four cases of pernicious anemia were identified in the neurology service and gastro enterology of University Hospital Yalgado Ouédraogo of Ouagadougou. The diagnosis was based on a decrease of the concentration in blood vitamin B12 associated with histological gastritis and the presence of anti- intrinsic factor antibody. The mean age of patients was 60.5 years, the sex ratio 0.33. Macrocytic Anemia was present in all cases with the lowest rates 4.Sgr. The events related to vitamin B12 deficiency, were gastrointestinal symptoms (03 cases) and neurological signs also in three cases. Neurological troubles were a table of combined degeneration of the cord (SCM) in all three cases, with motor deficits observed in two patients, cranial nerves in a patient, and memory impaim1cnt in two patients. Therapeutically, all patients had received vitamin B12 supplementation. Two patients had undergone motor rehabilitation. Treatment response was favorable in all patients. This condition is rare in our context. Although evere cases reported experieneing a favorable evolution with proper treatment.
