Effect of training on the quality of malaria cases management in the health centers of first contact in the fifth commune of Bamako

The national malaria control program with its partners conducted a health workers training about malaria cases management in all the country. This study aimed to measure the effect of these trainings on the practices of the health providers trained. This study took place in the structures of first contact of the fifth
Commune of the district of Bamako. This was a cross-sectional study using data of 3-month before and after training from consultation records. Fever was the most common symptom with 34.7 % before training and 33.6% after training. The majority of patients received a biological test that is to say 57.9 % before training
and 60.5 % after training. Simple malaria accounted for 35.4 % before training and 37.9 % after training compared to 34.8 % and 34.3 % respectively for severe malaria. However, 29.8 % of patients before training and 27.8 % after training were not classified according to national policy. Of the cases of uncomplicatedmalaria, 45.3 % were treated correctly before training, compared to 57.6 % after training. For severe malaria, the correct treatment rates were 75.5 % before training versus 72.1 % after training. provider training had a moderate effect on the quality of malaria case management. post-training supervision or onsite training could improve that situation. provider training has had a moderate effect on the quality of malaria case management in the affected facilities. post-training supervision or onsite training of health providers could improve this situation.
