Abstract

One of the strategies adopted in the framework of the fight against maternal and neonatal mortality is to teach women the signs of danger of pregnancy and postpartum. The objective of this work was to study the knowledge of the signs of pregnancy and postpartum danger as well as the associated factors among
women in the Sig-Noghin health district. This was an analytical cross-sectional study conducted from april 1 to May 30, 2016. it concerned a sample of 429 women. The interview and the documentary review were the investigative techniques used. For the identification of the associated factors, a logistic regression was carried out. among participants 16.5%; 11.1% and 6.3% were able to cite at least three (3) signs of danger, respectively of pregnancy, postpartum and newborns. The age of Women (ajOr 6.14 [1.06-35.61]), the level of education (ajOr 3.19 [1.59-6.38]), the number of pregnancies (ajOr 3.30 [1.13-9.62]) and the number of prenatal visits (ajOr 1.77 [1.09-3.46]) were the factors statistically associated with theknowledge of the signs of danger of pregnancy and postpartum. None of the factors studied were associated with the knowledge of the signs of danger in the newborn. The level of knowledge of the signs of danger of pregnancy, postpartum and newborns remains low among women in the Sig-Noghin health district. it is imperative to further promote  the awareness of pregnant and delivered women while at the same time involving the community in which they live.
