The aim of our study was to evaluate the impact of a sensitization on knowledges, behaviors and practices towards hepatitis B of students of Bobo dioulasso. We conducted an interventional study made in three phases on the same day, with a pre-test (self-administrated questionnaire) followed by presenting a slide
show about hepatitis B Virus, and a post-test in the selected classrooms of nine chosen schools of the city of Bobo dioulasso. all students present participate in the study (n = 1231). The mean age of the participants was 17.32 years (10-30 years) with a male-to-female sex ratio of 0.8. among them, over of the half (58.7%) had never heard about hepatitis B virus yet. The blood-borne transmission was known by 45.3% (n = 557), sexual transmission by 38.5% (n = 473), and mother-to-child transmission by 28.7% (n=353). These percentages increased significantly after the intervention to 79.6, 92.6, and 84 respectively. The existence of a vaccine was known by 415 students (50.3%) before intervention and 87.7% after. The factors associated with hepatitis B good knowledge were: being in premiere (one year before final year of high school) (Or = 8.8 [4.4-17.5 Ci 95%]); being in terminale (final year of high school) (Or = 5.1 [2.5-10.3 Ci 95%]) and general education (Or = 1.4 [1.1-2 Ci 95%]). The secondary schools student’s knowledge was superficial. it’s necessary to consider importance of sensitization about viral hepatitis B among adolescents.
