The scalp dermatosis in HIV infection at Dakar

Cutaneous manifestations during HiV infection have been much reported. However, the scalp dermatosis have not been enough studied . The aim of our study was to determine the type of scalp dermatosis during HiV infection. We conducted a prospective multicentric study over 10 months from July 2008 to april 2009 on medical center taking care of people living with HiV in dakar. Were included in the study, patients infected by HiV, with scalp dermatosis, followed in one of the sites of the study. a total of 63 patients with 85 scalp dermatosis has been compiled which 65% were female and 35% male. The mean age was 38 years. The prevalence of scalp dermatosis was 5.7% at the dermatology clinic of aristide Le dantec Hospital and 22% at Centre de Traitement ambulatoire(CTa). The silky hair represented 32% of diseases, tinea capitis 24%, and seborrheic dermatitis 15%. Silky hair was associated to Stage C for 19 patients and stage B for 8 patients. among the 20 patients with tinea capitis, 8 of them had less than 200 Cd4/mm3. The disease duration before treatment was 74 days. Scalp dermatosis has led a negative psychological impact in 63% of patients. The scalp was affected in case of severe immunodepression and significant under nutrition.
