Rectal prolapse with strangulated pararectal hernia: about a case
Keywords:
Prolapsus rectal, Hernie pararectaleAbstract
We report a rare case of rectal prolapse with pararectal extrusion of the ileum. The patient was a 10-month-old infant admitted to emergency with irreducible rectal prolapse. Attempts at reduction were unsuccessful and surgery was indicated. Intraoperatively, incarceration of the terminal ileum in the rectal prolapse was discovered, resulting in a pararectal hernia with necrosis. Treatment consisted of a double ileal and colonic resection. The colonic suture was protected by an ileostomy. The post-operative course was straightforward.
