Abstract

The Pneumology Unit has increased it morbidity the last few years and it morbidity still is the highest among the health units of CHU Yalgado Ouédraogo. This study aims at arresting better the epidemiological, clinical, diagnosis and evolutionary profile of the patients adrnitted in the pneumology unit to assure a better coverage.

It's related to a documentary based on the file of the hospitalized patients in the Pneumology Unit of CHU Yalgado Ouedraogo of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from January 1 , 2005 to December 31 . 2007.

During the study period, 911 patients were selected. We noticed a high HIV prevalence with tested patients (54.9 % ; 180/328). Pathologies mostly happen to be tuberculosis (43.3 ; 389/897) and acute Pneumopathies with unrernarkable gerrns (25.6 ; 230/897). 17.1 % (156/911) of the patients had a non-respiratory affection, dominated by cardiovascular affection (34 % ; 53/156) and digestive affection (28.9 % : 45/156). Mortality was high (23.1 % ; 210/911). Tuberculosis was the cause of nearly half of deaths (11.5 % ; 1051911), coupled with bronchopneumonia cancer (2.9 % : 26/911) and acute Pneumopathies with unremarkable germs (2.7 % ; 25/211). The factors involved in death situations were various such as delayed visits, inadequate references, low income of patient, poor case management, lack of relevant equipment and lack of education on health.

Strengthening of the technical tray, providing health education and upgrading skills of health personnel (doctors. nurses) taking into account needs for health of populations could contribute to reduce the mortality and the mortality due to respiratory diseases managed in the pneumology unit of CHU Yalgado Ouedraogo.
