Introduction: Dengue fever is a recurring public health problem in Burkina Faso that severely affects vulnerable young populations in Burkina Faso. Our study aimed to examine the knowledge, attitudes and practices of dengue prevention among medical and pharmacy students at universities in Burkina Faso.
Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study in the faculties of Medicine and Pharmacy of public and private universities in Burkina Faso from July 1 to August 2, 2024. A questionnaire programmed on Kobocollect was used to build the database.
Results: The study included 2012 students from 3 public universities (Joseph Ki Zerbo University, Nazi Boni University, Ouahigouya University) and one (01) private university (Saint Thomas Aquinas University) which have training and research units in medicine and pharmacy. In total, 53.43% of the students were male, 61.48% were between 21-25 years old. This study showed that half of the students demonstrated a good level of knowledge (51.29%) and practices (49.75%) regarding dengue prevention. Almost all (97.22%) had a good level of attitudes.
Conclusion: Students' levels of knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding dengue prevention were deemed good. This category of the student population, the future elite of public health, could constitute an important bridge for building university health programs in the fight against dengue
