Abstract

Introduction : The effective use of mosquito nets during periods of low malaria transmission could be a springboard for malaria elimination. The aim of our study was to determine the prevalence of mosquito net use among children aged 6 to 59 months during periods of low malaria transmission in Burkina Faso.
Methods : We conducted a descriptive analysis of data from the 2017-2018 Malaria Indicator Survey. Pearson's Chi-2 test was used at the P˂0.05 significance level. The analysis software was Stata 14.0.
Results : Of the 1233 children, 58.07% reportedly slept under a mosquito net the night before the interview. Some 69.79% of these nets were always impregnated with insecticide (p=0.000). In households with 4 nets, 75.78% of children used them (P=0.000). Net use reached 77.53% when nets were delivered to households with specific information (P=0.000).
Conclusion : An improved coverage strategy, combined with specific messages on malaria transmission, appears to be the most effective motivation for encouraging significant net use.
