Introduction: The dry season presents an opportunity to further reduce the number of malaria cases. The aim of our study is to provide information crucial for decision-making in malaria control during this period. This study aims to identify the socio-demographic and economic factors associated with malaria in children under five during periods of low transmission in Burkina Faso.
Methods: We conducted a comprehensive sampling of children under five in the Cascades, Centre-West, and North regions. Logistic regression, along with odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs), was employed with a significance threshold of P < 0.05.
Results: A total of 1405 children were included in the study. Factors associated with malaria included age over 12 months, use of unprotected wells, and access to water boreholes. Conversely, the absence of a plow in the household had a protective effect.
Conclusion: Continuous awareness campaigns and thorough monitoring of sanitation efforts could significantly contribute to reducing the prevalence of malaria.
