Schistosomiasis is a public health problem in Burkina Faso, despite the control efforts that began over two decades ago. Of the interventions implemented, praziquantel-based chemoprevention holds a key position. The aim of this study is to explore solutions for improving schistosomiasis control in Burkina Faso. A systematic review of the literature was conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. The PubMed, Science Direct, Ajol, and Google Scholar databases and the grey literature were consulted. The search equation was formulated using the PICOS method. The risk of bias in the articles was assessed using the ROBIS tool. Out of 1506 articles and 11 reports identified at the outset, 25 articles and 5 reports were retained and classified into three categories dealing with the morbidity of schistosomiasis, the effectiveness of chemoprevention and the lessons learned and prospects for strengthening control and achieving the objective of eliminating the disease. It emerged that the strategy based on praziquantel-based chemoprevention has helped to reduce the morbidity of schistosomiasis significantly, but will not be able to eliminate it unless vaccination is combined with existing interventions.
