Abstract

The objective of this research was to identify dietary factors associated with child growth in the Yirimadio health area.
It was a case-control study with a ratio of 1:2 in favor of controls that took place in December 2020 in the Yirimadio health area, health district of commune VI, Bamako, Mali.. Logistic regression was used for statistical significance at the lower threshold of 5%. Odds Ratio (OR) were calculated to measure the strength of the association between growth and associated factors.
The majority of cases 60.71% (95% CI [52.89; 68.14]) and controls 60.31% (95% CI [55.87; 66.54]) had consumed cereals. In bivariate analysis, the consumption of milk products, cereals, legumes, meat, eggs and fruit by children on the day before the survey was not associated with growth. The multivariate analysis showed that children who consumed 1-3 food groups on the day before the survey were 2.63 times more likely to be stunted than those who consumed 4 or more.
The dietary factors identified must be taken into account in the prevention of stunting
