Objective: To study the contribution of ultrasound in the management of viral hepatitis in a hepatitis association health facility in Bobo-Dioulasso from 02 January 2020 to 31 April 2021.
Patients and methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study during a retrospective period from 02 January 2020 to 31 April 2021 in patients positive for HAV, HBV, HCV, HDV or HEV.
Data were collected and analysed using epi-info 3.5.1 software.
Results: Of the 94 patients included, most were HBV-infected (96%), 86% were under medical supervision, with an average age of 37.8 years [20-80 years] and a predominance of 30-40 year olds. Abdominal Doppler ultrasonography was normal in 74% of cases, pathological with micronodular predominance (29%) and hepatomegaly (20.5%). Suspicious lesions were significant in 11.7% of cases.
Conclusion: In the majority of our hospitals, abdominal Doppler ultrasonography plays a major role in the follow-up of patients positive for the various hepatitis viruses, sometimes being the only diagnostic approach. In our study, we observed a predominance of micronodular lesions and a significant proportion of suspicious forms.
