Abstract

Chinese province of Wuhan, spreaded worldwide. It would be very contagious. There is no curative treatment. Thus, it was at the origin of many types of reactions throughout the world. The aim of this study was to describe the psychological reactions induced by this pandemic among secondary school teachers in Ouagadougou.
Material and methods : This was a cross-sectional study that took place from June 10 to October 31, 2020 among secondary school teachers in Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. The data was collected using the COVID-19 fear scale. They were entered and then analyzed with Epidata 2.0 and SPSS 20 software. We performed descrptive analyses and univariate. The associations are significant p < 0.05.
Results : The average age of the teachers was 43.58 years. Men represented 62.00% of the participants. Teachers consumed psychoactive substances in 34.9% of cases, those with ongoing pathologies reprented 37.10%.
The psychological reactions to COVID-19 were feelings of discomfort, fear of COVID-19, anger and fear of dying from this disease in 39.00%, 36.40%, 35.30% and 34.20% of cases respectively.
There was an association between fear of COVID-19, diabetes (p = 0.026) and sex (p = 0.000); anger was associeted to gender (p = 0.004).
Conclusion : The main psychological reactions to COVID-19 were feelings of discomfort, fear of covid, anger reactions and fear of dying from this disease.
Psychological reactions were associated with gender and the existence of conditions such as diabetes.
