In Burkina Faso before 2015, cases of dengue fever had been identified and this study to evaluate the clinical,
diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive knowledge of health workers on dengue fever. This was a crosssectional
study, conducted in 2015, at the level of 15 health facilities at the first and second level of the
city of Ouagadougou. The data was collected by administering a questionnaire to health workers. The degree
of knowledge was rated good (at least 3 correct answers), average (2 correct answers) and weak (at most 1
correct answer). Three hundred health workers were surveyed, including paramedics (90.4%) and 256 health
workers (85.3%) were aware of dengue fever. The knowledge of the clinical signs was good in 90.2% of the respondents and that of the treatment was good in 42%. On the other hand, knowledge of clinical forms,
biological diagnosis and prevention was low in 51.8%, 76.3% and 38.4% of paramedics, respectively. Dengue
appears new for first level health workers in Burkina Faso. Their training in the management of dengue fever
is essential.
