Abstract

The purpose of our study was to study the knowledge, attitudes and practices of health professionals in antenatal
care focused in the health district of Ouahigouya. We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study
with prospective data collection that took place from March 10 to May 30, 2015. Maintenance, observation
and self-administration were the investigative techniques used. The data were collected from a knowledge
questionnaire, an assessment scale for the attitudes and practices of antenatal care providers, an individual
interview guide and a material resources checklist And consumables to maternity officials and a checklist
of elements of the organization of the service with nurses heads of post. The results show that: 83.9% of providers knew the period of the first prenatal visit, 55.9% of the second prenatal visit; 77.4% and 74.2%
cited the detection and management of diseases and the prevention of complications as components of focused
prenatal care; the prevention of vitamin A and iodine deficiency and Sexually Transmitted Infections-
Prevention of mother to child transmission of HIv were the least known, with rates of 19.4 and 17.2%.
