Quels sont les critères qui sont à la base du choix de la couleur des poules lors d’un sacrifice dans la
société bobo ? L’étude tente de comprendre cette logique en procédant à une analyse ethnolinguistique
des termes se rapportant à la couleur. L’analyse révèle l’existence de deux catégories de couleurs
enregistrées par la culture bobo: les couleurs fondamentales qui sont exprimés par un seul terme et les
couleurs mimétiques dont l’expression fait appel à une composition. Les termes qui désignent les
couleurs fondamentales (noir blanc, rouge), traduisent non seulement une perception visuelle, mais aussi
un jugement affectif et symbolique. C’est dans cette continuité symbolique que l’on retrouve ces couleurs
fondamentales rattachées aux divinités du panthéon bobo. Dans la prière bobo, le choix de la
victime sacrificielle en l’occurrence ici la poule, est fonction de la divinité et des intentions formulées.

What are the criteria for choosing the color of hens during a sacrifice in Bobo society? The study tries
to understand this logic by carrying out an ethno-linguistic analysis of the terms referring to the colors.
The analysis shows the existence of two categories of colors recorded by the culture of the Bobo: the
fundamental colors which are expressed only by one word, and the mimetic colors which are expressed
by using a composition of words. The terms that indicates primary colors (black, white, red) translate
not only a visual perception, but also an emotional and symbolic judgement. It is with in this symbolic
continuity that one finds the fundamental colors attached to the divinities of the Bobo pantheon. In the
bobo prayer, the selection of the sacrificial victim, namely the hen, is function of the divinity and the
formulated intentions.
