Essayer de découvrir la biographie du capitaine Laurent, premier administrateur-militaire du cercle du
Haut-Cavally, est un exercice qui pose de nombreux problèmes d’ordre méthodologique. Parmi ces problèmes
figurent la question de l’identité nominale complète de l’administrateur et la recherche de la
documentation appropriée. En effet, les premiers résultats après avoir surmonté ces difficultés, attribuent
au capitaine Laurent de nombreuses actions : la création des postes militaires de Danané et Man,
la délimitation de la frontière franco-libérienne, la production de deux importantes monographies de
cercle.

Trying to discover the biography of captain Laurent, the first military administrator of Haut-Cavally
circle is an exercise involving a lot of methodological problems. Among those problems appear the issue
of the complete nominal identity of the administrator and the search of perfect and specific documentation.
Indeed, after having overcome these hindrances, the first results allow to perceive several
deeds of captain Laurent, such as the creation of military stations in Danané and Man, the fact of
fixing french-liberian’s borders, the production of two important monographies of circle.
